Main Street Bistro & Bakery

Main St. Bistro & Bakery

Last weekend I house sat for a coworker and took care of their dogs, while they were on vacation in New York.  They live in Grapevine, which gave a me great opportunity to revisit this gem of a town tucked in the DFW.

The Metroplex, is not just Dallas and Fort Worth.  There are tons of suburbs in the area, each with their own distinct character. Grapevine is a suburb of Fort Worth, located in Tarrant county.  Its Main Street is a historic slice of small town America, with quaint boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops, theaters, and wineries.  A stroll along the sidewalk takes you back to a simpler time.  Beyond downtown, Grapevine capitalizes on its tourism with the Gaylord Texan, Great Wolf Lodge, Grapevine Mills, and Grapevine Lake.

Taking a break from dog walking, and picking up pee pads and dog poop, I met my fellow foodie, Kristin, at the Main St. Bistro & Bakery.  It is one of four locations in the DFW area offering simple cuisine in a casual dining atmosphere.

Since this was a bistro, the décor had a French feel, accentuated by the glittery Eiffel Towers in the front lobby and back room.  We placed our order at the counter.  They gave us a number and we seated ourselves in the adjacent room.

Kristin ordered the Tomato Basil bisque and I ordered the Pasta Mardi Gras.  I'm not big on tomatoes, or any dish that is primarily derived from that atrocious fruit, but I like the word bisque, so I tasted what Kristin ordered.  It was actually very tasty. I would order it myself, if I was ever in a soup mood. It was accompanied with some French bread, which was perfect for dipping.

The Pasta Mardi Gras was shrimp, baby scallops, salmon fillet, smoked sausage, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, bow tie pasta in a Cajun sauce.  My entrée was perfect.  The sauce was zesty, but not overpowering and the seafood was tender.  And it wasn't fishy.  Since I was eating a lot of bottom dwelling seafood, it was nice it didn't have that smell like I was eating out Captain D's dumpster.

I enjoyed Main Street Bistro & Bakery.  It may not crack my top ten favorite places to eat, but it was definitely good food at a reasonable price.  And there were no mimes present, so that was good.
